What is a Certified Eating Disorder Specialist?
The International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals (Iaedp) established the certification process as an eating disorders specialist to promote excellence in standards of care for treatment of eating disorders. Professionals seeking this certification must demonstrate clinical expertise in the treatment of eating disorders by meeting a rigorous set of criteria including education, training, exam, and experience. Additionally, a minimum number of qualifying work hours, commitment to continuing education, and compliance with the Association's ethical principles are required for certification. CEDS who are marriage and family therapists have completed these requirements in addition to their state licensure requirements as a licensed marriage and family therapist.

What does it mean to have an eating disorders specialist on your treatment team?
When seeing a CEDS, a client can be assured that they will receive ethical, evidence-based treatment in compliance with Iaedp’s standards of excellence in the treatment of eating disorders.
